Toskana

The Tuscany, before called Tuszien, Tuscien, Tuskien in Italian Toscana, a region in middle Italy. In north border on Ligurian (Liguria) and on Emilia Romagna, in the east on Marken (Marche) and on Umbrian (Umbria) and in the south east on Latium (Lazio).

In the west the Tuscany has a large coast site, who comes down from the Ligurian sea in he north up to the Tyrrhenian Sea in the province of Grosseto.

The Tuscan archipelago includes as well as Elba, the third biggest island of Italy, smaller islands as Isola del giglio, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giannutri and Gorgona.

The Tuscany is one of the biggest of the 20 regions of Italy: about 23 000 sqm area and around 3,5 million habitants.

The capital of Tuscany is Florence (Firenze).

Administrative we have 10 provinces in Tuscany: Florenz, Grosseto, Arezzo, Pisa, Lucca, Livorno, Siena, Prato, Massa-Carrara and Pistoia.

Tuscany is well known as a historical cultural landscape and for his hilly landscape made out of pines, cypresses, olive trees and vine.

The highest mountain called Monte Prado (2054 m). The Tuscany has around one million hectare forest area.
In the south of Tuscany you can find a huge natural park, “parco dell’Uccellina”, with his exceptional rare Flora and Fauna.

In the north the Tuscany is defined by the Apennine Mountains his range of hills so called as the Apunian Alpine with a height of almost 2 000 meters and in the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano of about 2 000 meters.
One of the famous and popular landscapes of the Tuscany is Maremma, located in the south. The Chianti area between Florence and Sienna, as well as the Versilia coast in the north west and the Etruscan Riviera, which is extended from Livorno up to pompano along the Tuscan coast.

The economy in Tuscany is mainly based on tourism, winegrowing and the production of olive oil, as well as various craftwork.

An other important sector since the domination of the Etruscan is the production of steel in the region around Piombino. Natural resources; resources are iron ore, pyrite, zinc ore, quicksilver, marble (from Carrera and Massa) and salt.
